World Leprosy Day is observed on the last Sunday of January every year. It provides an opportunity for enhanced efforts and renewed commitment for elimination/eradication of the debilitating disease at the earliest. It focuses on the target of zero cases of leprosy-related disabilities in children. Early detection is prime focus to achieve this target, along with strengthening interventions to prevent leprosy transmission.
World Leprosy Day theme for the year 2020 is to spread awareness about the ailment and prevent the misconceptions about the disease. This year World Leprosy Day is celebrated on 30th January,2020 i.e Death Anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
As a part of the theme, an awareness campaign in the form of Nukkad Natak with Question- Answer Session and Rally was organised by Metro College of Nursing, Greater Noida on 15th February, 2020 with a view to mark the day with a variety of events to raise awareness of leprosy and the prejudice and discrimination that people often face and to ensure every person affected by leprosy receives treatment as early as possible.
Awareness is the best tool to fight this disease. By raising awareness around us, we can tackle the prejudice and discrimination which often stops people coming forward for treatment. So, a Nukkad Natak including a Question Answer Session and a Rally was organised by The Community Health Nursing Department of Metro College of Nursing in Village Roja Yakubpur, Greater Noida, U.P. to generate awareness about the symptoms and importance of early detection of Cancer.
The participants in the Rally were B.Sc. Nursing Students, Faculty Supervisors of Metro College Of Nursing ; Medical Officer, DOTS Incharge and other staff members of Community Health Centre, Bisrakh ; ASHA workers, Anganwadi Workers of Village Roja Yakubpur.
