World Cancer Day is observed worldwide on February 4, every year. The aim is to inform and encourage people on its prevention, early detection, and treatment. This initiative was taken by the Union for International Cancer Control to campaign and advocate for the targets of the World Cancer Declaration, penned in 2008. It is an initiative under which the entire world unites to fight against the global cancer epidemic.
The theme of World Cancer Day for the year 2022, is 'Close the Care Gap'. It is all about understanding and recognizing the inequities in cancer care around the globe. The theme revolves around identifying and recognizing global disparities in cancer care, that prevents people from certain economic strata full access to essential healthcare services and facilities. Inequity in cancer care costs lives.
In order to create awareness and upgrade the knowledge of the students regarding World Cancer Day, 2022. Metro College of Health Sciences and Research had organized various activities such as a webinar on World Cancer Day on the theme “Close the care gap” in the college premises as well as in Metro hospital sectors including Metro Multi-Specialty hospital, Metro Heart, Metro Hospital Preet Vihar, District MMG hospital, Ghaziabad and Community Health Centre, Bisrakh.
As a part of the theme, an awareness programme in the form of Poster Exhibition, was organised by the students of B.Sc. Nursing Final year posted at Greater Noida CHC, Bisrakh with a view to create awareness highlighting the early signs and symptoms of cancer, key risk factors, remove the stigma and fear attached regarding cancer, its prevention and control measures and importance of regular screening and check-ups, by following the social distancing norms and other Covid Guidelines, under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Sachin, MOIC CHC, Bisrakh Mr. Muzaffar A. Makrani, Associate Professor, Mrs. Rachna Rai Sharma, Assistant Professor along with the organising team members Miss. Arti Singh Assistant Professor, Miss Rakhi Gill, Nursing Tutor, Dept. of Community Health Nursing, MCN.
The theme stresses upon the need to understand and reduce the inequalities in cancer care around the globe. It lays special focus on those who are not able to gain access to healthcare services and facilities due to lack of financial resources, in a view to this Metro Multi-specialty Hospital, Noida Sector 11. Students of B.Sc. Nursing II year, GNM III year and Paramedical II year, had organized Slogan recitation, displaying of the poster and role play depicting cancer awareness, under the Supervision of Mr. Vinit Ramawat, Associate Professor, Miss. Sakshi Sood, Nursing Tutor, Miss. Neeru Paintola, Nursing Tutor, Dept. of Medical Surgical Nursing, MCN. The Chief Guest for the cause was Dr. Kanika, Medical Director, MMH, Dr. Ribbu, Medical Superintendent, MMH, Miss. Sujama, Nursing Superintendent, MMH, Noida.
Cancer is now the world’s second leading cause of mortality. Several events are planned on this day in the world, where people talk about the disease and give emotional support to the people who are battling the disease. Similarly, students of GNM III year and Paramedical II year had shown their active participation on the day by educating the attendees regarding the different awareness programme on Cancer and displaying of poster, under the supervision of Mrs. Shivani Rai Sharma, Assistant Professor, MCN and Miss. Deepika, Nursing Tutor, MCN. Dr. Punnet Gupta, DM, Director Oncology, Dr. R K Choudhary, Miss. Chaya and Miss. Riji, Nursing Superintendent, Metro Hospital, Preet Vihar. Students were appreciated for their hard work and their initiative by Metro Hospital, Preet Vihar.
The purpose of the day was to educate people about cancer and its early detection and how to fight the disease, on this the students of GNM III year had displayed poster, organised a skit and health education at District MMG Hospital, Ghaziabad in order to aware the people, under the supervision of Mr. Mahesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, MCN. The overall program was brought to an end because of the support of the MMG family including the CMS Dr. Manoj Kumar Chaturvedi, Dr. Vishwakarma, General Surgeon, Dr. Arti, Hospital Manager, Dr. Pawan, Gynaecologist, Ms. Beena Sonkar, Nursing Superintendent, Ms. Heena Victor, ANS and Ms. Monika Prasad, ANS, District MMG Hospital, Ghaziabad.
Metro College of Health Sciences and Research, had also organized an online webinar on World Cancer Day, 2022. This campaign was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Kanak Lata, Director of Education, MCHSR. And was organized by Prof. Pravin Prakash P, Principal, College of Nursing, Dr. Praveen kr. Gaur, Principal, Pharmacy, MCHSR, Prof. Sneha Mathew, Dean student welfare, Miss. Priyanka Joshi, Assistant Professor, Mrs. Jaunita John Barren, Assistant Professor and Mr. Atul Kumar, IT Executive, MCHSR.
Metro College of Health Sciences and Research Faculty members and students had attended the webinar, the welcome address was delivered by Prof. Pravin Prakash P, Principal, College of Nursing. Dr. Kanak Lata Madam, Director of Education, MCHSR had shared her views and her personal life experiences on cancer thereby delivered the inaugural address.
The session was covered by Prof. Dr. M Sudhadevi, Principal, College of Nursing, GIMS, Greater Noida. It was a very interactive session, madam had discussed regarding the barriers in cancer and how to overcome them, how to reduce the inequity and about the policies, schemes of Government of India. In the discussion session, students had actively participated by answering the questions and thereby clearing their queries on Cancer and the role of health professionals.
The session was ended and concluded by Dr. Praveen kr. Gaur, Principal, Pharmacy, MCHSR on behalf of the Metro family.
