EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Metro College of Nursing, Greater Noida, organised a First Aid Week, from 18th April, 2022 to 22nd April, 2022 as per INC Mandatory module for B.Sc. Nursing. Target Group is B.Sc. Nursing, 1st Year students.
Objectives of the First Aid Week
The students will be able to:
o Explain basic principles of first aid and law related to first aid.
o Describe various first aid techniques such as basic CPR, recovery position, top to toe assessment and hygiene and handwashing.
o Identify common emergencies that require immediate attention and first aid.
o Perform basic techniques to deal with specific and common emergencies to preserve life.
o Perform first aid measures such as dressings, bandages, and safe transportation.
o Prepare a first aid kit.
The program was the result of the organising committee under the guidance of Prof. Pravin P. Prakash, Principal, Metro College of Nursing, Greater Noida and Mrs. Sneha Mathew, Dean, Students Welfare, Metro College of Nursing, Greater Noida. The members of the program were Mr. MuzaffarA. Makrani (Associate Professor), Mr. Mahesh Rajput (Assistant Professor), Ms. Jaunita John (Assistant Professor), Ms. Pinki (Assistant Professor), Ms. Anshu Kain (Assistant professor), Ms. Mainka Godara (Nursing Tutor), Ms. Sakshi (Nursing Tutor), Ms. Mumtaj (Nursing Tutor), Ms. DeepikaKumari (Nursing Tutor), Ms. Shallu (Nursing Tutor), Ms. DikshaMehra (Nursing Tutor), Ms. Meenu (Nursing Tutor), Ms. Bharti (Nursing Tutor) and Ms. Sandhya (Nursing Tutor).
Each teacher has been provided with different topics to cover in their allotted hour. The session was started with the welcoming speech by Prof. Pravin P. Prakash, Principal, Metro College of Nursing which was further carried out by the Introductory Speech by Ms. Deepika Kumari (Class co-coordinator). Further the sessions have been started by the allotted teachers as follows:
SESSION 1: INTRODUCTION TO FIRST AID, PRINCIPLES AND GENERAL RULES
Introductory session was carried out by Mr. Muzaffar, Associate professor, Metro College of Nursing. He took lecture on the introduction, principles, types, golden rules and qualities off first aider.
SESSION 2: FIRST AID KIT
Second session was taken by Ms. Anita, Nursing Tutor, Metro College of Nursing. She took session on first aid kit and showed the first aid kit to the students with the rational of each article.
SESSION 3: BANDAGES
The third session was taken by Ms. Deepika Kumari, Nursing Tutor, Metro College of Nursing. She took the theory class on bandages, purposes, types, application, guidelines and the general rules. Practical classes and the practice of bandages was done in different class.
SESSION 4: RESPIRATORY SYSTEM, POISONING AND SENSORY SYSTEM RELATED
The fourth session was conducted by Ms. Diksha, Nursing Tutor, Metro College of Nursing. She took two different lectures in which she covered First Aid in respiratory system (drowning, strangulation & hanging, choking, suffocation by smoke and asthma), poisoning (definition, types, sign and symptoms and the First Aid management in poisoning) and sensory system related emergencies (First aid management in case of foreign body in eye, ear, nose, throat or skin). She taught students to assess these emergency situations and take action for immediate first aid in different scenarios.
SESSION 5: CVS
The fifth session was taken on cardio- vascular system by Mr. Mahesh Rajput, Assistant Professor. He took topics of cardiovascular emergency that are chest pain/ discomfort and shock.
SESSION 6: FIRST AID INJURIES AND FRACTURES
The sixth session was conducted in two lectures by Ms. Anshu Kain, Nursing Tutor, Metro College of Nursing. She covered the first aid in case of injuries such as head injuries, neck injuries, spinal injuries. She also taught about bone fractures, strains, sprains, tendinitis, bursitis, bruises, dislocation and the application of casts, splints, collars, slings and traction for the treatment. She taught both the preventive as well as the immediate treatment measures that are needed to be takes in all the above conditions.
SESSION 7: UNCONSCIOUSNESS AND NERVOUS SYSTEM RELATED
The seventh session was conducted by Ms. Mumtaj, Nursing Tutor, Metro College of Nursing on the First aid management of Nervous system related emergencies such as unconsciousness, convulsions and stroke.
SESSION 8: GASTRO-INTESTINAL AND ENDOCRINE SYSTEM RELATED, BITES AND STINGS
The session on Gastro- intestinal and endocrine related emergencies and also in case on bites and stings was taken by Ms. Sakshi, Nursing Tutor, Metro College of Nursing in two different lectures. She covered all the emergency conditions such as diarrhoea, food poisoning, diabetes, stitch, toothache, hiccups, constipation, animal bite, snake bite, human bite and insect bites and stings. The first aid management was also covered in these conditions.
SESSION 9: URINARY SYSTEM, REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM AND EMERGENCY CHILDBIRTH
The ninth session was taken by Ms. Sandhya, Nursing Tutor, Metro College of Nursing. She took lecture on the emergency of urinary system, reproductive system and an emergent childbirth with their first aid management.
SESSION 10: PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID
The tenth session was covered by Ms. Pinki, Associate Professor, Metro College of Nursing. She took all the psychiatric emergencies (Suicidal, Overactive, Underactive and Alcoholic clients) along with the psychological First Aid (PFA). Objectives, strengths, weakness and the application of PFA in children, adolescents and adults.
SESSION 11: CPR IN ADULT AND CHILD
A detailed theory cum practical session was conducted by Mr. Mahesh Rajput and Ms. Diksha Mehra for CPR in adults and Mrs. Jaunita John and Ms. Bharti for CPR in Child. Pretest and post-test was conducted by the faculties. Demonstration was given and re- demonstration was also taken by teachers.
Session 12: DRESSING, BANDAGING, TRANSPORTATION AND HANDWASHING
Practical session was conducted in a OSCE style by Ms. Deepika, Ms. Shallu and Ms. Meenu. The procedures conducted were dressing, handwashing, transportation and bandaging. Demonstration and re-demonstration was conducted.
