**Metro College of Nursing Conducts Training on Newborn Care for B.Sc. Nursing Students**
Metro College of Nursing organized a comprehensive training on Facility Based Newborn Care and Essential Newborn Care Module, following the guidelines prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council. This training, essential for B.Sc. Nursing 5th Semester students specializing in Child Health Nursing, took place on the 22nd and 24th of May, 2024.
During the sessions, students received extensive instruction on evidence-based newborn care practices. Key topics included:
- **Temperature Regulation in Newborns**: Techniques to maintain optimal body temperature.
- **Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC)**: Benefits and methods of skin-to-skin contact for premature and low birth weight infants.
- **Feeding the Newborn**: Best practices for breastfeeding and alternative feeding methods.
- **Care of Sick Neonates**: Identifying and managing common neonatal illnesses.
- **Newborn Resuscitation**: Steps to perform effective neonatal resuscitation.
- **Infection Prevention and Control**: Protocols to minimize infection risks in newborns.
Faculty members demonstrated various assessments using detailed checklists, ensuring students could observe and understand each procedure. Active participation was encouraged, with students re-demonstrating the acquired knowledge and skills. This hands-on approach ensured effective skill development, empowering nursing students to perform comprehensive newborn assessments, provide KMC, manage feeding, and care for both healthy and sick newborns proficiently.
