Practical training constitutes an important part of pharmacy curriculum, being essential for students’ professional advancement. This training is universally regarded as a vital component of pharmacy education and is an indicator of the extent of industry – institute interaction, which is very essential for the growth of industry as well as for attaining excellence in technical education. In this regards an Industrial Tour was organized by Metro college of Health sciences & Research (Pharmacy) for B.Pharm 8th Semester students between 28th April-1st May 2022.

A group of 22 students accompanied by two faculty members Dr. Sameer Rastogi (Vice Principal) and Ms. Rashmi Singh (Assistant Professor) was taken to Industry of well repute namely Affy Pharma Pvt. Ltd., Himachal Pradesh. Prior permission from the industry was taken to visit the Manufacturing, Quality Control and Quality Assurance area.

Below mentioned is a Day Wise Report for the industrial tour.

Day 1 (28th April, 2022)

All the students and faculty members reached MCHSR campus at 09:00pm. The journey was started at 10:30 pm on hired Deluxe AC Bus to Baddi.

Day 2 (29th April, 2022)

The Team-MCHSR reached Baddi at 07:30am and stayed at Hotel The Classic Residency, Baddi. After breakfast at 9:30am, the team reached Affy Pharma Pvt. Ltd. at 10:30 AM. The team was received warm welcome from Mr. Raj Kumar Sharma (General Manager), Mr. Bhupendra (QA Head) along with the staff members. Mr. Raj Kumar Sharma (General manager) addressed the students and gave brief introduction of Affy Pharma Pvt. Ltd. He told

the students that the industry was setup in the year 1996, Over the past few years, they have established themselves as a leading supplier of pharmaceutical products to the world. Affy is a reputed and established name in the pharmaceutical market based out of Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, India with a turnover worth 1 billion (INR), supported by good professionals and a strong committed work force of 650 employees.  They are associated with approximately 600 customers and manufacturing over 6000 brands.
They have 3 manufacturing units with 15 sections along with 2 packaging & printing units. They focus on providing quality products at affordable prices and offer one-stop solution to all the customers with a wide range of pharmaceutical formulations i.e., Tablets, Capsules, Injections, Ointment, Liquid Orals.
After this brief introduction of company students were divided in groups to visit Manufacturing unit and QA- QC section one by one. The students were guided by Mr. Raj Kumar Sharma (General Manager), Mr. Bhupendra (QA Head) to various department of manufacturing.
Mr. Raj Kumar Sharma told the students that the plant has facilities for manufacturing of different dosage forms i.e. Tablets, Capsules (Hard Gelatin), injectables. He showed each section to the students starting from warehouse to the packaging section of each category of products by explaining role of each and every section separately for the manufacture of various products.
Mr. Bhupendra guided the students to the QA-QC department and showed the Quality Control Laboratories to students. The labs are as per cGLP guidelines & having Wet, instrumentation, stability and Microbiology lab with latest and sophisticated instruments. He explained each and every section and instrument to the students. This added a good gain of knowledge to the students which helped them to understand practical aspects of pharmaceutical study.
After visit there was a vote of thanks from the faculty member of MCHSR to the Director and Staff member of Affy Pharma Pvt. Ltd. for their kind hospitality and great cooperation. Mr. Raj Kumar Sharma (General manager) & Mr. Bhupendra (QA Head) were also presented a memento and letter of thanks on behalf of Prof. Dr. Kanak Lata, Director Education, MCHSR.
At 1:00 PM, The team-MCHSR left for hotel. There is a special arrangement of DJ night along with the dinner.

Day 3 (30th April, 2022)

The team-MCHSR started from Baddi to Shimla at 10:00 am after having breakfast at hotel and reached Pinjore Garden at 10:30 am. After visiting the garden,  the team reached Shimla at 01:30 pm and had lunch. Then the students visited Mall Road, Shimla along with Jakhoo temple and stayed at hotel Asia the Dawn, Shimla.

Day 4 (1st May 2022)

After having breakfast in the morning at 08:00 am, the team reached kufri at 12:00 pm. After starting from Kufri at 4:00 p:m, they reached Greater Noida at 05:00 am.
