Metro College of Health Sciences and Research in association with IPA organized two days 1stinternational AMR conference on theme, “Antimicrobial Resistance and Gut Microbiome: Rationalizing Prescriptions in Clinical Practice on March 03-04, 2023.
The conference was inaugurated with auspicious lamp lightening ceremony by Chief Guest, Dr. G. N. Singh (Advisor to Hon’ble Chief Minister Uttar Pradesh, Former Drugs Controller General of India), Dr. Jai Prakash (Senior Principal Scientific Officer, IPC Ghaziabad), Dr. Kamini Walia (Scientist ’F’ Division of ECD ICMR, New Delhi), Dr. Md. Fadli Mohd. Asmani (Dean, School of Pharmacy Management & Science University, Malaysia), Dr. Sameer Gupta (Director - Metro Group of Hospitals, Group Director - Cardiac Cath Lab, Managing Director- – Aurum), Dr. Sonia Lal Gupta (Director, Metro Group of Hospitals, Managing Director- Metro College of Health Sciences & Research), Organizing Chairperson Dr. Kanak Lata (Director Education, Metro College of Health Sciences and Research), Convenor Sh. R. A. Gupta (Secretary & CEC Member IPA UP state Mentor, QA Team, NHM Govt. of UP).
The Conference spread awarenes about antimicrobial resistance and various challenges faced by mankind to combat AMR. In this conference, speakers from all over India and other countries discussed various steps to be followed to fight against AMR including rationalization of prescription habits, irrational use of antibiotics and one health approach. The speakers presented that according to W.H.O., today AMR is one of the most important challenge in the global health, food safety and development. Dr. Sonia Lal Gupta, Director, Metro Group of Hospitals explained that AMR is the resistance developed by micro-organism against antibiotics to be used for treat infections. After development of antibiotic resistance, it becomes very big challenge to treat and to stop spread of infections. The main objective of the conference was to create awareness about AMR and to stop self medication and irrational use of antibiotics. According to cardiologist Dr. Sameer Gupta, most of the infections are treated with the use of antibiotics but long term and excess use of antibiotics may work against immunity and increase risk of antimicrobial resistance. It is also important to check the prescribing habit and need of antibiotics. The speakers in the conference also explained the importance of AMR awareness, challenges to deal with AMR situation and irrational use of antibiotics. The conference was attended by more than 500 delegates from more than 75 colleges across 11 states of India.

The conference was concluded on March 04, 2023 by Vote of Thanks by Organizing Chairperson Dr. Kanak Lata (Director-Education, MCHSR) during valedictory program in the gracious presence of Hon’ble Dr. Y.
