International Yoga Day is a gift to the world from Prime Minister Modi, who proposed it to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014, and it was adopted by 193 countries. Since then, the 21st of June has been designated as International Yoga Day.
This year, on the 21stof June, 2022, Metro College of Health Sciences & Research celebrated 8thInternational Yoga Day with tremendous zeal and excitement under the theme "Yoga for Humanity." Dr. Diwakar Shukla, co-founder of Divya Wellness and proprietor of Yoga studio, was the acclaimed chief guest for the event. He is a certified memory development and Psycho Neurobic therapist. He is also a licenced neurotherapist. Over the past 11 years, he has used yoga to teach people about body, mind and soul wellness. He possesses a Diploma in Naturopathy and Yoga, a Postgraduate Diploma in M.D.P.N, an MD in Acupressure, and a Diploma in Auricular and Wellness Neurotherapist (Certified by Govt. of India).
This year’s theme for yoga for Humanity reminded us “how yoga is truly universal" and on how yoga has helped people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
For hundreds of millions of people worldwide, yoga has been an essential part of life during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing an important mechanism of coping with the challenges of social isolation and stress.
Dr. Diwakar’s approach is to spread the virtues of Yoga for the wellbeing of the world and has helped thousands of patients suffering from chronic ailments and pain.
The programme started at 12:40 p.m.The guest of the day has been introduced by Ms. Sakshi Minocha (Assistant Professor), MCHSR. Honourable Director of Education Dr. Kanak Lata, Principal Dr. Praveen Gaur, and Vice-Principal Dr. Sameer Rastogi graced the occasion with their presence.
Dr. Diwakar began the session by demonstrating different Yogasanas. Following that, the students and teachers excitedly performed a few warm-up and easy asanas.
In addition, he discussed 'The Positive Framework of Meditation.' He described about how bad thoughts may make a person feel. He stressed that a person's positivity is boosted by purity of ideas. Purity of thinking produces intellectually and physically strong people, who in turn produce a positive nation, to make a positive world. He underlined that it is the teachers' obligation to instill positive sentiments in students. He led the students and teachers in a 3-minute meditation session, emphasising the importance of regular meditation in one's
life and encouraging them to practise yoga and meditation on a regular basis for a healthy body and mind.
