Metro College of Health Sciences & Research celebrated “National Girl Child Day” on 24/01/2022 which was conducted as an initiative for women safety, respect and empowerment under the program “AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV”. Awareness is the greatest agent for change. The aim of this session is to create the awareness of gender based discrimination, inequality of girl child and to save girl child. The national girl child day is celebrated in India on 24th January every year. It was introduced by the Ministry of Women and child development in year 2009.With respect to this celebration, the Women cell-MCHSR conducted an event via MS Team. It was followed by the official inauguration of National Girl Child Day and presentation on importance of National Girl Child day by Dr. Niharika Lal (Associate Professor), MCHSR where she highlighted the issues concerning girl child, importance of girl child day and examples of exceptional Indian women who have fought against the odds and now is pride of India. She also highlighted the issues that women are facing in their day to day life. During the interaction, she also told that how sexual harassment can lead to sexual assault and effect of unwanted conduct in violating someone’s dignity and modesty. Dr Kanak Lata, Director of Education, MCHSR addressed the students where she highlighted the importance of National Girl Child Day. She also inspired and blessed the female students for their future endeavors. All the girl students participated in the event voluntarily and participants were highly appreciated for their active participation.
It was very interacting event with a good response from the students. Team MCHSR arranged various competitions to develop inner skills among students.

Quiz
The main aim of the event was to analyze the knowledge of students regarding National Girl Child day and general awareness.The event was conducted via Google form.Winners for the quiz were Riti Verma (B.Pharm1st year- 1st position), Urvashi Srivastav (B.Pharm 1st year- 2nd position) and Ramandeep Kaur (B.Pharm 4th year, 3rd Position).
Song
Students participated in the event with great zeal and zest.Participants sangpatriotic songs very enthusiastically.Neha (D.Pharm 1st year) secure 1st position. Diksha and team secure 2nd position in the event.

Speech
Topic for speech competition was “Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow”. In speech competition, participants highlighted their viewson that girls must be given the opportunity not only to show their talent but should also live their life with full freedom.Participants showed more enthusiasm in speech competition. Jyoti Bhatia (D.Pharm 1st year) and Cheshta (B.Pharm 3rd year) got 1st and 2nd prize respectively.
Drawing
Students showed their creativity by preparing various drawings. The theme for Drawing competition was “Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow”. The students came up with beautiful messages displayed through their drawings.Winners for Drawing Competition were Ramardeep Kaur (B.Pharm 4th year), Manisha Malik (B.Pharm 4th year) and Pooja Kumari (B.Pharm 1st year) respectively.

The entire day saw different events celebrated on the occasion of National Girl Child day.All the events got many participants who keenly participated in the celebration.The coordinators were invited to judge the event.It was really difficult to judge the event as all the participants had put in a lot of labor and came out with their best.
All the events turned to be a great success and made the day for many students and staff realizing the importance of the girl child and need to celebrate it.The participants were very happy to participate in the event and the program received wonderful response.
